Percentage of Americans Smoking Marijuana has Doubled Since 2013

Since 2013, the number of users who currently smoke has increased

Fox News reports that the percentage of Americans who say they currently smoke marijuana has nearly doubled since 2013.

Recreational marijuana use is legal in Colorado, Washington, Alaska, Oregon, and the District of Columbia.

Findings have found that 13-percent say they currently smoke pot – up from 7-percent in 2013.

In 2013, 38-percent of people said that they had tried the drug, this number is up to 43-percent in 2016.

People in the western U.S. were more likely to report they currently smoke pot compared to the rest of the country.

Nearly half of all adults in their 30’s through their 60’s admitted to trying marijuana at least once, where only 38-percent in the 18-29 age group reported trying it.

Researchers believe the older group may have been more likely to try pot because they had more years to do so or because attitudes toward marijuana have changed over time.
