Eskomos Adjust to New Coach

Scott Arnston Takes Over for Longtime Coach Bill Hudspith

High school football practices are underway across the Northland.

For many teams, fall camp means new beginnings.  That’s the case in Esko, where the Eskomos have a new coach in Scott Arntson.  Arntson replaced Bill Hudspith, who stepped down in February after 26 seasons on the Esko sideline.

The Eskomos finished 2015 a win shy of the state tournament, and for the Esko seniors, coming oh so close a year ago drives them through the heat of camp.

“Yeah, it was a big disappointment,” says co-captain Ian Mills.  “But I think this year we’ve got lots of guys out here that want to win, want to succeed.  That’s just in the back of our heads.”

The Eskomos are focused on their season opener, not the section title game.

“We’re just trying to focus on the Cloquet game on the 2nd,” says senior Stone DeLeon.  “Hopefully there’s a different result but we’re just going to take it one day at a time, a game at a time and see where it takes us.”
