Bulldogs Wrap Camp with Scrimmage

UMD Combines Football with Welcome Week for 3rd Straight Year

As the University of Minnesota Duluth welcomed freshmen to campus everyone got involved.  Including the football team.

The Bulldogs helped wrap up day one of the 2016-17 school year by wrapping up fall camp with a full pad scrimmage at Malosky Stadium.

With students and families packing the “Dog House”, the scrimmage took on more of a game–feel.  And since coach curt wiese opted to hold most of his starters out, the younger players got a chance to play in front of a crowd less than ten days before the opener.

“For those guys to walk out here for the first time in a live scrimmage like this and have a full stadium with a lot of energy in the stadium is important,” said Wiese.  “We certainly appreciate the support of campus to make this happen.  It’s an important day for our incoming freshmen and certainly it’s an important day for our young football players who haven’t had a chance to play in front of a crowd.”

The Bulldogs open the 2016 season Thursday September 1st in Marshall, Minn. against Southwest Minnesota State.
