Twin Ports Firefighters Raise over $60,000 During Fill the Boot

2016 Fill the Boot to support kids and adults with muscle-debilitation diseases

Members of both the Superior Fire Department Local 0074 and Duluth Fire Department 0101 participated in the firefighter’s annual Fill the Boot fundraising campaign.

The campaign is to help the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) find urgently needed treatments and cures for muscular dystrophy, ALS, and other related diseases that severely limit strength and mobility.

Firefighters fanned out across the city from August 29-31, asking pedestrians, motorists, customers, and other passersby to make a donation to MDA.

This year, Duluth raised a record breaking $43,641.90 and Superior also had another successful year raising $19,754.46; a grand total of $63,396.36 for the Twin Ports area.

These massive contributions to the MDA will help fund groundbreaking research and life-enhancing programs such as state-of-the-art support groups and Care Centers, including MDA Care Center at Essentia Clinic in Duluth. They also help send more local kids to “the best week of the year” at MDA summer camp at no cost to their families at Camp Courage.
