Blatnik Bridge Traffic Switch on Wednesday

Traffic closures will switch to northbound lanes of the Blatnik

A traffic switch will take place on the Blatnik Bridge on Wednesday September 14. The southbound lanes will reopen and both northbound lanes will close for approximately four weeks. One southbound lane will be open the entire length of the bridge and the other southbound lane will be open along the entire stretch of the bridge except on the center span.

The center span area must be closed to meet the restricted weight limits for the repair work taking place on the bridge. The single-lane area will cause traffic backups, and most motorists may wish to use the Bong Bridge as an alternate route to Superior.

Once this traffic switch is in place, motorists traveling to Duluth from Superior will be required to take a marked detour and use the Bong Bridge.

Motorists are advised that traffic is expected to be slow on I-35 in downtown Duluth for most of the day Wednesday, as crews remove signs that are no longer needed and set up signs needed for the traffic switch.

There will be many temporary lane closures throughout the day and MnDOT suggests allowing extra time for travel through this area.

Motorists are asked to be patient and drive carefully near the work zone areas.
