Minnesota Supreme Court Decision Keeps Trump on Ballot
Legal challenge by Democrats is dismissed
Minnesota’s Supreme Court has dismissed a legal challenge by Democrats to have Donald Trump removed from the ballot.
The state Democratic party filed the lawsuit late Thursday. Democratic officials argued that the state GOP party erred in how it sent in Trump’s name for a spot in the ballot because Republicans hadn’t properly chosen alternate electors.
But the court’s order issued Monday ended the slim possibility that trump and running mate Mike Pence wouldn’t appear on the November ballot. Its decision says Democrats waited too long to challenge Republicans’ submission.
The state Republican party called the lawsuit frivolous and asked the high court to reject it.
Early voting is set to begin September 23 in Minnesota.
