Hermantown Schools Host Open House

School invites community to see its brand new project.

Students at Hermantown Community Schools have enjoyed new classrooms, an auditorium, and a gymnasium for a few weeks now.

The rest of the community walked through the doors for the first time at an open house.

The $48.9 million referendum passed in 2013 and the project stayed within its budget.

“It wasn’t a blank checkbook. We made sure that we were really conservative but at the same time wanting to give the students and the staff a learning facility that was going to be honorable of their trust in us,” said Superintendent Kerry Juntunen.

After the open house, the school board approved a contract of $200,000 with the architect of the project.

Both sides have been working on the deal for about a year.
