Cliffs Ratifies Contracts for Michigan and Minnesota Operations

New 3-year labor contracts for workers

Cliffs Natural Resources Inc. announced today that its employees that are represented by the United Steelworkers at its Tilden Empire mines in Michigan and its United Taconite and Hibbing Taconite mines in Minnesota, ratified a new 3-year labor contract.

The new contract is retroactively effective from October 1, 2015 through September 30, 2018 and covers approximately 2,000 USW-represented employees at Cliffs’ operations.

United Taconite productions in Eveleth resumed at the end of August, after nearly 500 workers for the company were laid off for nearly a year.

The company announced earlier this year that the company signed a 10-year agreement with a major steel client, U.S. Steel Canada, to supply the majority of their iron ore pellets.

Cliffs is a leading mining and natural resources company in the United States. The company is a major supplier of iron ore pellets to the North American steel industry from its mines and pellet plants located in Michigan and Minnesota.
