Miska Confident After Debut Sweep
UMD Freshman Goalie Posted Shutout in First Collegiate Start
The most asked preseason question about Bulldog Hockey was “who would fill Kasimir Kaskisuo’s pads between the pipes?”
After opening weekend, the answer is Hunter Miska. For now anyway.
What a debut weekend for the freshman, who blanked Michigan Tech Saturday; and became the first goalie to post a shut out in his UMD debut since Brant Nicklin in 1996.
Miska did allow 3 goals sunday, but the Bulldogs rallied to earn the sweep.
With his first weekend out of the way, Miska says he’s ready for his first hostile environment this week when the Bulldogs visit UMass-Lowell.
“It’s nice, we’ve got our toes dipped in the water finally, all of us freshmen,” said Miska. “Our first few games here and we’re going to be pretty confident going in to next weekend. It was an awesome weekend for my first experience here in Duluth, I couldn’t be more happy.”
Bulldogs coach Scott Sandelin was pleased with the debut.
“I was happy for Hunter,” said Sandelin. “For any goalie, especially the freshmen, you want to see what they’re made of. I thought he battled, he stayed in there; I thought he showed some mental fortitude battling through that early part.”
