New Crafting Hot Spot Hits the Northland

Jo-Ann Fabrics and Crafts Hosted a Grand Opening Ceremony Thursday

Sewing needles, fabric, and so much more was flying off the shelves Thursday as Jo-Ann Fabrics and Crafts celebrated its grand opening in Duluth.

The space, which use to house Hancock Fabrics, is now home to the leading fabric and craft specialty retailer in America.

Thursday’s grand opening was complete with special offers, giveaways, and free cookies and refreshments.

“I was up at the registers earlier today and there was a constant flow of people that were coming through and they were all very excited about Joann’s coming to Duluth,” Sales Representative Katrina Rasmussen said.

Jo-Ann officials tell FOX 21 News there will be chances for the public to interact and attend classes at the new location starting up soon.

To participate in the classes, you can sign up in the store or online.

“I love to sew and knit and I love to work with people and talk to them about their projects and what they are making and learning new skills and techniques,”Rasmussen said.

The Jo-Ann store also made a donation to support local education, giving one lucky school a $2,000 dollar grant to be used toward an educational project.
