Many Gather to Celebrate Gary Eckenberg’s Retirement

City Officials Declare Gary Eckenberg Day

Many gathered today to surprise Deputy Administrator Gary Eckenberg for his retirement.

Eckenberg has been serving St. Louis County for over thirty years now and at the end of this week he is retiring.

Eckenberg started with the county in 1977, after leaving a school district job.

He used his communication and graphic arts background to help the county’s health department.

Even after he moved to County Administration in 1992 he remained keenly focused on health issues.

Eckenberg is happy to retire but sad to end this chapter.

Eckenberg said, “These are work family, people you spend your days with, so it is sad in that sense but it’s a new chapter and no plans.”

Officials announced a proclamation for Gary Eckenberg day in the city of Duluth.
