Early Morning Fire Causes $150,000 in Damage

This morning The Duluth Fire Department was busy responding to a house fire at 520 Leicester Avenue.

The call came around 4:00 a.m.

The first fire rig on the scene from reported a very large volume of fire visible upon arrival.

They quickly deployed hose lines and started to attack the fire.

Firefighters started an interior attack on the fire and searched for hidden fires and hot spots.

The homeowner stated she heard some noises and saw that something was on fire right outside the home, she evacuated safely to the outside.

Two birds that were inside the home were found by the firefighters and were attended to with oxygen, but died from the effects of the fire.

The main body of the fire was soon darkened down but the fire extended to many areas of the first floor and attached garage area with heavy fire and smoke damage throughout the home.

A live power line that came down from the fire was monitored until MN Power was able to secure it.

None of the 21 Firefighters on the scene were injured.

The Fire Marshals office is in the process of investigating the fire and the cause is undetermined at this time.

Initial damage estimates are $150,000 dollars.
