Northland Foundation Awards Over $100,000 to CHUM

52 grants were distributed across northern Minnesota

The Northland Foundation approved 52 grants during their third quarter of 2016, totaling $421,850 to serve the people and communities of the seven-county region.

A grant of $105,000 has been awarded to Churches United in Ministry (CHUM), to support early childhood programming at the Steve O’Neil Apartments, in Duluth. Steve O’Neil Apartments provides 44 units of permanent supportive housing to families with children that have experienced persistent homelessness, as well as 6 units of emergency housing.

The childhood programming is a key component to help parents and their children who have experienced instability and trauma to thrive, and ultimately break the cycle of family homelessness.

Facets of the program, include early childhood programs and family coaching and support; promoting health and wellness with health screenings, prevention education, mental health services, and more; and providing learning activities to support to help children meet developmental milestones.
