Wisconsin High School Student Wins Gold Medal for Handmade Dress

Molly Niven Had Only Been Sewing for a Little Over a Year

Molly Niven, a Wisconsin High School Student, won a gold medal for a dress that she sewed for Family, Career and Community Leaders of America’s National Competition.

The national competition had mostly modern dress entries, according to Niven. However, she had a passion for historical fashion and decided to sew an 1880’s Victorian day dress, accurate to that time period.

“It really helped me get involved and part of it really showed me kind of what my career like what I wanted to go in to, now I really have this strong passion for fashion and sewing and like pushing myself and working hard on things,” said Niven.

Niven is currently working on another dress for this year’s competition.
