Vikre Distillery Releases New Whiskey

The rye whiskey pays tribute to the Northland

Vikre Distilery in Duluth released a new spirit to the public tonight.

Northern Courage is the distillery’s new rye whiskey. Fans got a first taste at a release celebration tonight at Vikre in Canal Park. The new whiskey is described as a peppery flavor with a hint of smoke.

Vikre collaborated with Bent Paddle Brewery to make the base for the whiskey, which has been aging in Minnesota oak barrels for two years. The idea behind the whiskey pays tribute to the Northland.

“It’s a little bit of a joke, versus southern comfort,” said Emily Vikre, co-founder & president of Vikre Distillery. “There’s not a lot of comfort in the north so it takes courage instead. So this is our spirit…the northern spirit.”

This is the eighth spirit released by Vikre Distillery. You can find Northern Courage at the distillery and select locations across the Northland.
