Wehr Running Cloquet to the State Tournament
Spencer Wehr continues his successful junior season into State
Cloquet is running their way to the state tournament for the third time since 2013.
“We certainly like to run the ball. That’s no secret everyone knows that,” said Cloquet head coach Tom Lenarz.
This Friday junior Spencer Wehr did a lot of Cloquet’s running, with 133 yards and two touchdowns.
“He has a great combination of size and speed that you don’t always get. He’s a big solid kid but he can make cuts that some of the smaller backs,” said Lenarz.
Things really clicked for Wehr when he made a switch to the backfield.
“When I was in middle school I was a lineman and I didn’t really like that so just the next thing I could go to was the running back,” said Wehr.
This season Wehr has scored plenty for the lumberjacks as a running-back, but his favorite memory came last season.
“My favorite memory would have to be my very first touchdown, I was a sophomore against Hermantown, it was our homecoming,” said Wehr.
Wehr will make new memories this year running in the state tournament and next season he’ll still be running in Cloquet purple for his senior season.
“It’s always nice to know you have kids like that that aren’t just good football players. That’s fun to know I’ll get another year with him that way,” said Lenarz.
