Sandelin Pleased with 3rd Period Dominance
UMD Has Outscored Opponents 14-2 in 3rd This Season
The University of Minnesota Duluth claimed the top spot in the college hockey polls with seven wins and two ties in the first 10 games of the season, against five nationally ranked opponents. The Bulldogs ability to battle back has been a big reason why.
UMD has been outscored 12–10 in 1st period of games this season, but are outscoring opponents 28-10 after the first 20 minutes, including a 14–2 edge in the 3rd.
Scott Sandelin’s squad is 4–0–2 when giving up the first goal and Coach has been impressed with the Bulldogs mental makeup in times of adversity.
“They haven’t panicked, they’ve stayed with games no matter what,” said Sandelin. “There’s a belief I think, that they can come back and win any game. I’d like to say as a coach that it’s conditioning and maybe a little bit of it is, but I think it’s a huge mindset.”
The Bulldogs host Western Michigan in a National Collegiate Hockey Conference series this weekend.
