Morris Claims State Title

'The Hope of the Hillside' Stopped McLaurin to Claim Jr. Welterweight Crown

Duluth is home to a brand new state boxing champion.  Saturday night at Throw Down at the Bear at Black Bear Casino, ‘The Hope of the Hillside’ Markus ‘Hooch’ Morris claimed the vacant Minnesota Jr. Welterweight Championship by knocking out Jeremy McLaurin in the 7th round.

Morris dominated the fight from start to finish, improving to 10–2 as a pro with six knockouts.

Most importantly though, Morris can now call himself a champion.

“It feels good, I’m happy.,” said Morris.  “I really don’t know what to say, I’m happy, it feels good.  We’ve been waiting for a long time, now we’re here.  It was good fight, he came in tough, now we’re champs.”

Also at Throw Down at the Bear, ‘The Haitian Temptation’ Al Sands improved to 19–2 with a 2nd round TKO of Dominique Alexander.
