Christmas City of the North Parade Traffic Advisory

The Duluth Police Department has issued an advisory for Friday, Nov. 8

The Christmas City of the North Parade will be held in Downtown Duluth, on Friday, November 18. The parade will travel down Superior Street from 9th Avenue East to 4th Avenue West starting at 6:25 p.m.

Preparations for the parade will begin at 4:00 p.m. as units will begin lining up along London Road between 10th Avenue East to 14th Avenue East, and the upper side of London Road from 14th Avenue East to 17th Avenue East.

The parade will travel up 9th Avenue East for the start of the parade and continue West on Superior Street to 4th Avenue West where units will then disperse to designated locations on Michigan Street and 5th Avenue West.


London Road: closed to vehicle traffic at 4:00 p.m. from 10th to 14th Avenues East.

Superior Street and Michigan Street: closed to vehicle traffic at 5:45 p.m. – vehicles will be allowed to exit Michigan Street lots and ramps, but will be directed down to the 5th Avenue West off-ramp.


-After 10 a.m. at five meters in front of Pickwick near Superior Street on the East side
-After 12 p.m. at the meters on the upper side of Fitger’s Inn
-After 3 p.m. on London Road, both sides, from 10th to 14th Avenues East
-London Road, upper side, from 14th to 17th Avenues East
– 12th and 13th Avenues East from London Road to Superior Street
– Jefferson Street from 13th to 14th Avenues East
-Rose Garden Parking Lot
-After 4:00 p.m. – Michigan Street from 5th to 4th Avenues West
-After 5:00 p.m. – Superior Street from 10th Avenue East to 5th Avenue West


DTA buses will use 1st Street for west bound runs and 2nd Street for east bound runs.


Buses will be allowed to access the Duluth Transportation Center on Michigan Street


– Superior Street east bound traffic will be detoured up to 2nd Street at 6th Avenue West to continue east bound. West bound traffic will be sent up 14th Avenue East from London Road and up 10th Avenue East from Superior Street to continue west bound on 1st Street.

– Lake Avenue will be blocked off at 1st Street at the freeway ramps on Lake Avenue viaduct. Access to Canal Park, Park Point, and the DECC will be down 5th Avenue West to the connector to Railroad Street, and from the freeway exits onto 5th Avenue West and South Lake Avenue.


If coming from THE EAST: Take 1st Street directly to the Hospital. Use either the parking ramp on the lower side of 1st Street between 10th and 12th Avenue East, or the emergency department on the upper side of 1st Street between 10th and 9th Avenues East.

If coming from THE WEST: Take 2nd Street East to 10th Avenue East, turn down to 1st Street, turn right to the emergency department entrance on the upper side of 1st Street. To access the parking ramp, take 2nd Street East to 12th Avenue East, turn down to 1st Street, turn right on the lower side of 1st Street.


Free Parade Parking is being offered after 5 p.m. at the following ramps:

-Shoppers Auto Park – 18 N. 2nd Avenue West
-Fourth Avenue Auto Park – 402 West Michigan Street
-U.S. Bank Ramp – 230 West Michigan Street
-Tech Village Ramp – 10 East First Street
-1st and 1st Lot – 123 East First Street
-Medical District Ramp – 302 East First Street
-Fitger’s – 600 East Superior Street
-Phoenix Parking Lot – 98 North 4th Ave West
-St. Luke’s Hospital Ramp – 1020 East First Street
-St. Luke’s Employee Parking Lot – 119 N. 12th Avenue East

Drivers are urged to use caution when driving in the area of this event. Downtown traffic should return to normal by approximately 8:30 p.m.
