Woman Attempts to Hang 16-month-old at Minneapolis Day Care

Authorities have not released the woman's name

Minneapolis police say a woman tried to hang a 16-month-old boy* in a day care and then threatened to jump from a freeway overpass until passers-by and police stopped her.

Assistant Police Chief Kris Arneson says the child is “doing fine” after Friday’s incident.

Arneson says the woman fled in a van, ran over a pedestrian and then struck a bicyclist. The pedestrian suffered broken bones and scrapes. Arneson says both will survive.

The woman later went to the Park Avenue overpass above Interstate 94 and was threatening to jump.

Arneson says a parent arriving at the day care rescued the boy. Authorities have not released the woman’s name, but Arneson says the operator of the day care is the suspect.

Police report that they still do not have a motive.
