Head-On Collision in Ironwood
One reported with life-threatening injuries
Around 1:00 p.m., on Tuesday, November 22, 2016, Ironwood Public Safety Department responded to a report of a head-on collision at U.S. 2 and Luxmore Streets. Officers arrived, as EMS was on scene rendering aid to one male victim.
The driver of the first vehicle was transported to Aspirus Grand View Hospital and later airlifted to Wausau with, what appeared to be, life threatening injuries. His official condition is not known at this time.
The driver and passenger of the second vehicle declined transportation to a hospital. Their injuries did not appear to be serious.
The preliminary investigation shows that one vehicle failed to yield, causing the crash.
Names are being withheld pending notification of family members and further investigation.
A portion of U.S. 2 remained closed for about 5 hours, while evidence technicians and an accident investigator collected evidence. The scene was cleared around 5:30 p.m.
