No challengers in upcoming Wisconsin Supreme Court race

First uncontested race since 2006

No one has announced plans to challenge Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Annette Ziegler’s re-election.

That is setting up an uncontested race for the state’s highest court for the first time since 2006.

The deadline for candidates to file is January 3, but typically challengers to an incumbent justice announce their campaigns months ahead of time and start fundraising. That has not happened this year.

Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Joe Donald ran for the court this year and lost in the primary. He says he hasn’t “heard anyone making any noise” about challenging Ziegler. Donald says “If someone was out there thinking about it, they would need to move right away.”

Justices on the state Supreme Court serve 10-year terms.
