Superior City Council Accepts Mayor Hagen’s Resignation

The council also approved of appointing Hagen interim mayor until his successor is elected.

At a special meeting, the Superior City Council accepted the resignation of Mayor Bruce Hagen.

The mayor is stepping down halfway into his term. The council approved Hagen serving as interim mayor until a successor is elected in April.

Hagen said that by resigning at this time that he is saving the city nearly $30,000 by not having a special election.

“I’ve never quit in my life. I’ve never not followed through on my responsibilities and my commitments and in this particular case that can’t happen. So for the betterment of the city, especially myself and my wife, I need to do what I need to do,” said Hagen.

At least two people are already in the running for the vacant mayoral seat. Jim Paine will officially announce he is running for the office on Wednesday. Jeffrey Monaghan
