The DECC Serves Thousands of People a Thanksgiving Meal
The DECC Serves a Free Thanksgiving Meal
It was definitely a happy Thanksgiving today for over 4,000 people who were served that might not have had a meal otherwise.
Volunteers have been preparing for this day for weeks now.
They served at the DECC but they also delivered hot meals to over 2,000 additional people around the northland.
The best part, they say, the thanks that is expressed for their efforts.
Monica Hendrickson, the Event Coordinator, said “The diners have been very thankful and the best part is to hear the gratitude and thanks from people.”
A few very successful changes took place this year.
Hendrickson said, “We changed to the ballroom and people got through quicker and could enjoy the day.”
Shandeen Lundgren, an attendee, said “I like it that they plated meals now. Before it was buffet so it goes smoothly and its super delicious.”
They served up all the Thanksgiving fixings that you could think of and sometimes its hard to pick a favorite.
Lundgren said, “I’m a cranberry girl, a turkey girl and a mashed potatoes girl so I like all of it.”
All of the leftovers will be given to Second Harvest Food Bank.
