Bulldogs Among Nation’s Volleyball Elite

UMD one of six NSIC Schools at Central Regional

First serve For the Division II NCAA Women’s Volleyball tournament is just days away as the University of Minnesota Duluth heads to the Central Regional for the 14th time in 15 years.

The Bulldogs battle Winona State Thursday in an matchup of Northern SUn Intercollegiate Conference rivals.  In fact, six of the eight teams in the regional, including host Concordia-St. Paul come from the NSIC.

That’s double what the conference sent to last year’s tourney, and Bulldogs coach Jim Boos aays its nice to see what he considers to be the best conference in Div. II recognized as such.

“Getting six teams in is certainly proof positive of how good the league has been this year, how talented the teams are,” said Boos.  “The unfortunate thing is obviously only one team comes out of this region.  I certainly hope it’s an NSIC team, and I certainly hope it’s this team.”

The strong NSIC showing is a source of pride for UMD players as well

“Everyone deserves a chance, especially in our conference, it’s such a hard conference to play in,” said senior Sydnie Mauch.  “It’s really nice to know out conference is so well respected and to see six teams out there.”
