Duluth NAACP Branch Elects New President

Stephan Witherspoon will tak over starting in 2017

The Duluth branch of the NAACP will have a new president beginning in 2017.

Stephan Witherspoon was recently elected to lead the local group and will replace longtime serving president Claudie Washington.

Witherspoon’s family has been actively serving the Duluth community since he was a child.

He says with the widespread unrest across the country, he wants to help provide a voice to people in his community and lead by example.

“We have to make sure that here in Duluth and in Superior we work with each other so these things don’t happen up here,” said Witherspoon. “These things around the nation that are happening are very relevant and we can’t slide it under the rug, but how are we going to model different behavior to work together.”

Witherspoon says he also wants to help the NAACP to build a stronger alliance with local law enforcement in both Duluth and Superior.
