Preparations Underway for Hmong New Year

Volunteers are getting ready making the food for the annual Hmong New Year.

The Hmong New Year follows the lunar calendar and is celebrated after the harvest.

Volunteers in Duluth have been busy making egg rolls, sticky rice, and other traditional dishes for the event on Saturday.

“Every year, there’s always a Hmong New Year somewhere and as long as you can come and enjoy what Hmong culture is about, there will always be one and there will always be people to celebrate and have fun,” said Toufue Xiong, event emcee.

The celebration will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Duluth.

It kicks off with a program at 11 a.m. that will feature food and traditional clothing from Laos and Thailand.
