Leech Lake Tribal Officer charged with possessing child pornography

Received sexual photographs from a minor while on duty

A Leech Lake Tribal Police Officer has been charged with possessing child pornography.

Officer Shannon Larry Northbird, 38, was charged today in Cass County District Court with one felony count of possessing pornographic work of a minor, as well as a gross misdemeanor for misconduct by a public employee.

The criminal complaint states that Northbird was receiving sexual photographs of a minor, and was viewing them while on duty. Photographs were sent and received via Snapchat, Facebook, and texting.

The investigation into this case continues.

Northbird is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at 1:00 p.m.
