WisDOT performance management initiatives save $1.5 billion since 2011

Innovations, efficiencies save nearly $100 million in 2016

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation has released a new report, Better, Faster, Lower Cost: An Efficiency Report from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation. The report itemizes WisDOT initiatives that it has implemented in order to enhance performance and reduce cost in all the department’s functional areas.

These functional areas include highways, DMV, and State Patrol.

Since 2011, performance management measures have saved $1.5 billion, including nearly $100 million in the 2016 fiscal year.

In an effort to be leaner and more effective in delivering projects and services, WisDOT has implemented a comprehensive, transparent, performance improvement system (MAPSS – Mobility, Accountability, Preservation, Safety, and Service). MAPSS sets goals and identifies areas for ongoing improvement without compromising WisDOT’s commitment to safety and service.
