Duluth City Council Approves Support for Standing Rock Resolution

Resolution states the city's support for the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe's effort to protect tribal lands.

The Duluth City Council debated a resolution expressing support for the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe.

The council heard from around thirty-five to forty members of the public on the issue.

The council voted to pass the resolution 8-0 for their support of Standing Rock.

Councilor Howie Hanson said “We stand with Standing Rock today, tonight, and forever.”

Councilor Zack Filiopovich thanked the audience for their civility and peace in the public comment period of the meeting.

Several members of the audience said they had visited Standing Rock and witnessed the events firsthand.
