North Shore Scenic Railroad Receives Another National Recognition
Named One of Top Ten Christmas Trains in Country
Much of the Northland was developed through the shipping and rail industries.
One museum in Duluth is keeping history alive on the tracks and is now getting national attention for their work.
The North Shore Scenic Railroad has been recognized several times for its train preservation.
Most recently the Christmas City Express Holiday Train was named one of the ten best Christmas trains in the country by USA Today.
North Shore Scenic Railroad Executive Director, Ken Buehler, says this is because of the unique Northland story told on the train, “Our Christmas City Express is a story written locally by two local authors, based on a story told to us as children by my father, because of that it’s only available in Duluth.”
This is not the first time the organization has gotten national recognition.
Earlier this year, USA Today voted the Lake Superior Railroad Museum, which sponsors the North Shore Scenic Railroad, as one of the top ten transportation museums in the country.
This summer, Better Homes and Gardens Magazine chose the North Shore Scenic Railroad as one of the top ten family-friendly scenic train rides in America.
Buehler says it all comes back to the folks who started it all.
“They weren’t thinking about next week, or next month, or next year, they were figuring out “what is it going to be like 20 years from now, 30 years from now? What will sustain this train museum and this arts and culture center?”” Buehler explained.
The Christmas City Express runs every Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings through Christmas.
They are also running trains to Bentleyville Tour of Lights.
