Tips on How to Prevent Vehicle Theft

From the Duluth Police Department

It’s the holiday season, and many are out shopping for that perfect holiday gift. Vehicle prowl thefts are a crime of opportunity that can be prevent, if the right steps are taken to avoid such opportunities for thieves.

The Duluth Police Department has comprised the following tips to prevent thefts from your vehicle this season:

-Always keep valuables out of sight. Never leave cell phones, laptops, other electronic devices, purses, etc in plain view. Take these items with you or secure them all the time and every time.

-If your car has a trunk, use it! Place valuables in the trunk or in a locked compartment. Hiding items under seats is better than leaving them in the open, but securing them is a far better deterrent.

– Keep your doors and windows locked all the time. Prowlers don’t’ like to be noticed and generally move onto the next “easy target” to avoid being seen.

Duluth Police wants the public’s help in reducing vehicle prowls. If you see something, say something.
