Barron County crash leaves 2 with life threatening injuries

On December 12, 2016, at approximately 8:55 a.m., the Barron County Sheriff’s Department reported a one vehicle rollover, with possible ejection of occupants on U.S. Highway 53 southbound just south of County D.

Upon arrival, officers located the vehicle on its roof in the westbound ditch of Highway 53 southbound.

A Life Link helicopter landed on scene and transported one occupant to Luther Hospital in Eau Claire, and the other was transported by ambulance to Lakeview Medical Center in Rice Lake.  Both were reported to to have life threatening injuries.

The vehicle had been traveling southbound when the driver lost control and entered the ditch on the west die of Highway 53, rolling multiple times. Both the driver and passenger were ejected from the vehicle, neither were wearing their seatbelt.

The driver of the vehicle was Sara Everson, 36, of Eau Claire and the passenger was Mark Higgins, 26, of Gransburg, WI.

Alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation by the Wisconsin State Patrol.
