Duluth man dies after being struck by vehicle over the weekend

On Saturday, December 10th, 2016 at 1:10 p.m., Duluth Police responded to the area of Maple Grove Road and Mall Drive after receiving a report of a male hit by a vehicle. 

Officers arrived at the scene and determined that a 72 year old male identified as Eugene Lloyd Thompson of Duluth was struck in the roadway by a vehicle driven by a 75 year old male driver identified as Laverne Walter Bail also of Duluth. 

Thompson was transported to a local hospital facility with unknown injuries the day of the incident and later succumbed to his injuries. 

Preliminary investigation suggests that the pedestrian was struck while crossing the road in the middle of the block and not at the intersection or within a designated crosswalk.

There were no indications that the driver was impaired and cell phone distraction was not a factor.
