Before some Minnesota lawmakers head to the state capital, they met with CHUM leaders Thursday to discuss the needs of the Northland community.

This year CHUM is asking the legislators to consider pushing for more affordable housing, more funding for family investment programs, an increase in access to dental care for low-income individuals and the restoration of voting rights for felons.

CHUM says although they aren’t always on the same page with the legislators, this is a valuable opportunity.

“We don’t always agree,” said Lee Stuart, executive director. “Mostly we do. When we don’t, we work it out.”

CHUM says meetings like this are important because they believe that politics isn’t just for Election Day, they want to play a role in the legislative process.
