Families in Need Get Gift of Transportation
Community Action Duluth Gave Three Cars to Needy Families
DULUTH, Minn. – Families in need got the gift of transportation thanks to Community Action Duluth and local NAPA Autocare Centers who partnered to give three worthy families a new car.
The cars weren’t brand new, but thanks to generous donations, Community Action Duluth was able to give Corinthian Rutherford and two other single mothers, cars. A grateful Rutherford calls her new car “life–changing.”
“There are no words that can truly describe how I feel and the impact that this is going to have on my life,” said Rutherford. ” I didn’t even tell my kids because I wanted to make sure everything was gonna pan out. When they found out, the first thing my daughter said is she was going to do gymnastics, and I said yes you are.”
The cars were donated to Community Action Duluth, and fixed up by mechanics from Twin Ports NAPA Autocare Centers who donated both time and parts to get these cars, and families, back on the road.
“It’s a feel–good thing,” said Brad Williams from NAPA. “But besides that, whether it’s the laws of sowing and reaping or paying it forward or what goes around comes around sort of a thing, it all works and it’s definitely good to be a part of that.”
Community Action Duluth also offers what it calls the Jump Start Program, which helps needy families who are able buy used cars at a reduced price.
