Madeline Island Ferry to be Open All of Winter

It's a Rare Occurance That the Ferry Stays Open All Year

BAYFIELD, Wis.- The Madeline Island Ferry Line will stay opened for the winter.

With the open waters of Lake Superior still visible from the marina, it’s the second year in a row that the ferry will be traveling between Bayfield and Madeline island all winter long. Shannon Mager who has been working at the Ferry Line for over a decade, says staying open during the winter is a rare occurrence.

“There’s some people that have worked here for 30 years, and have only seen it 3 times in their career,” says Mager.

Mager says the Ferry Line does prefer to close during the winter, for maintenance purposes.
