Caring for Cancer with Valentine Cards

Children in the Community Handcrafted Valentine's Day Cards for the Cancer Resource Center of Essentia Health

DULUTH, Minn. – Handmade cards full of color and love are now decorating the Caring Ways Cancer Resource Center of Essentia Health in Duluth.

The Duluth KidsClub started two years ago, when Founder Brandi Worthing wanted to create a social hub for parents to connect with events happening in the community.

Over the weekend, the Pottery Burn Studio and Duluth KidsClub teamed up during the Valentine’s Extravaganza event at Clyde Iron Works.

“It’s something to brighten up their day a little bit. I know being at the Cancer Resource Center isn’t the best day probably for them, so at least they can have a little bit of a smile to them,” said Amanda Korhonen with The Pottery Burn Studio in Duluth.

Each child had the chance to make a special valentine, contributing to the larger piece of community art.

“They were all super excited, and we had different kind of mediums here; we had chalk, colored pencil, water color, crayons and decoupage, so they got to try a little bit of everything,” said Korhonen.

The art work was hung in the Cancer Resource Center with the hope of putting smiles on the faces of patients, staff, friends and family.
