One Year Since Fire That Devastated Gloria Dei Lutheran Church
Members Remembered the Day With a Prayer Service
DULUTH, Minn.- It’s been exactly One Year since members of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church have been without their original space of worship, and Saturday, those members remembered the fire that devastated their beloved church building, at a prayer service held at Dougherty’s Funeral home.
“We think that marking this day is important. We might remember where we were when we first heard about the fire,” said David Carlson, a Pastor for Gloria Dei Lutheran Church.
Services included scriptures, prayers, and a procession encircling the Gloria Dei Building.
Though it’s been a hard year for them, Gloria Dei Lutheran Church is moving forward with their plans to rebuild their old church.
“Our number one priority is to make the entire facility accessible. So we’ll be installing an elevator that will reach all the levels of our building, and make it accessible to anyone,” said Brett Amundson, the President of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church.
And though they don’t have an exact timeline for when it will all be done, members are ready for a new chapter, and their faith is as strong as ever.
“I think it can be characterized by one of our members,” said Carlson “even that first day. She said, my heart is breaking, but not my spirit.”
