Birkie Organizers Hoping for Better Weather

Events Start Tomorrow

Hayward, Wis.-Birkebeiner ski race organizers still have many concerns over the weather.

There are some puddles on the trails, as crews work on siphoning off water from them. Some trails are also being repaired after they were damaged from the recent weather.

“With below freezing temps in our future, along with snow in the forecast, we’re going all in with efforts for a ski event of some sort,” Birkie organizers said in a prepared statement. “Even if snow¬†arrives, there are significant infrastructure needs behind the scenes that need to be addressed.”

There have been discussions of turning some of the skiing events into running ones. There’s also talk of having a looped race, which would be non-competitive.

Birkie events kickoff tomorrow with some running events. Check out the Birkie website at to find out more.
