Plans Denied for Old Kozy Property

Three proposed plans were denied by the City

DULUTH, Minn. – It’s regroup time for efforts to find developers for the old Kozy Building property in Downtown Duluth.

The City of Duluth and its review committee have determined three proposed plans for the site are not good enough for the future of East First Street in Duluth.

“The ones that we received, they just didn’t really grab us,” stated Heather Rand, Director of Business and Workforce Development. “We think the right proposal or developer is still out there. We just need to spend a little more time, do it right, and identify who that is.”

City officials believe they need the right development in order to bring new life to the area. This includes housing, while also successfully connecting First Street to the Historic Arts and Theatre District one block below on Superior Street.

New marketing efforts are in the works for the property.
