Grand Portage Lodge Gets Makeover

The Grand Portage Lodge and Casino Finished with Phase Two Renovations

GRAND PORTAGE, Minn. – One popular place along the North Shore is now prepared for played to try their luck once again.

The Grand Portage Lodge and Casino is undergoing a three-phase project, opening a fresh chapter for its guests.

It’s a popular place for thousands of visitors each year, no matter what season it is. Now, visitors will have the chance to check out elegant new rooms, suites, a fitness area, and much more.

“Everybody’s excited about our offerings,” said Steven StandingCloud, Casino Manager at Grand Portage Lodge and Casino.

New chapters are opening as casino construction continues.

“The Grand Portage Lodge and Casino is happy to announce phase two of the three part renovation is complete,” said StandingCloud.

It’s a work in progress. One of Cook County’s popular tourism destinations now offers 12,000 square feet of new, advanced, electronic fun.

“In that expansion we have a new gaming floor along with a new front desk,” said StandingCloud.

With 430 new slot machines, folks are flocking from the north and south for a chance at the big bucks.

“Our casino floor is now using a state-of-the-art ventilation system so there’s not a whole lot of smoke anymore,” said StandingCloud.

Moving toward the new, modern world of gaming and relaxation.

“There’s a lot more breathing space for our guests!”

Superior views still welcome guests into the newly renovated lobby.

“Natural woods in the interior are beautiful as well,” said StandingCloud.

Fresh architecture, keeping the Ojibwe culture in mind.

“Floral designs are very prominent in the Ojibwa culture.”

Designs adding a finish touch to the new look. Lighting, resembling the norther aurora, also help set the mood.

“A sculpture of the Little Spirit Tree here in Grand Portage has been done by a local artist by the name of Donovan Damon,” said StandingCloud.

Carvings help keep culture front and center, while fun filters through the fresh space.

“We will be reintroducing black jack to the gaming floor in the coming weeks,” said StandingCloud. “More fun, excitement and endless possibilities for our guests to come in and enjoy, win, be entertained!”

The renovation is being led by the Grand Portage Tribal Council.

Still to be completed in phase three are new offices, a revitalization of the restaurant and lounge, as well as an event center with banquet and meeting rooms.

The Council plans to unveil phase three renovations by Fall 2017.
