35th Minnesota Food Share Runs Through March

DULUTH, Minn. – The 35th Minnesota Food Share kicks off March 1st, the start of a big month for CHUM.

While donations are accepted and encouraged year round, the March Food Share is one of CHUM’s most important drives.
And even more important than food, is money. With cash donations, CHUM has access to food sources only available to charitable organizations.

“Cash, for everything, is king,” said Scott Van Daele, Director of Distributive Services for CHUM.  “This campaign really stresses that.  For every ten dollars you donate, I can buy $80 worth of food.”

The Whole Foods Co–Op has two drives planned for the Food Share.  Customers can drop off food items at either co–op location, or they can round up their total at the register..

“If their transaction is for $20.22, we’ll ask them if they want to round up to $21,” said Sarah Hannigan, General Manager of the Whole Foods Co-Op.  “That change, instead of going into their pocket will go to the food drive.  It’s a really great way for us to make a big difference with small change.”

Last year the co–op raised $8,700 through round up.  This year, The goal is more than $10,000.
