DULUTH, Minn. –

As we head into the month of March, many skiers are counting down their days left on the trails. With the recent snowfall and colder temperatures in place, the ski trails in Duluth are still in prime winter conditions.

But with the near 50 degree temperatures forecasted for this weekend, paired with the sun beating down on the snow, skiers have to plan ahead.

“There’s a golden moment when the temperature just gets above 32 degrees and the snow starts to soften up and you can ski for a couple hours. But then after that, it gets too soft.” explained the Assistant Manager of Dultuh Parks and Recreation Andrew Blade.

The days left to ski this season are becoming numbered.

“After about the second week in March, I call it the bonus period. This is bonus time! Any day you can ski after March 10th is prime!” said Blade.

To get your last minute ski fix in, this Saturday the Duluth Cross Country Ski Club is hosting their annual ‘Tour Duluth’ ski event. Anyone is welcome to come out and ski all or part of Duluth’s public and private trail systems. You can ski anywhere from a 5K or up to a 75K, with snacks and drinks at multiple locations. There is also a post ski celebration at Clyde Iron Works at 5:30. Food and Bent Paddle Beer will be provided, followed by a social hour with live music. The post celebration is free for DXC members and $10 for non members and $5 for kids under 12.
