Disturbance at Ashland County Jail

ASHLAND COUNTY, Wis. – Ashland County Sheriff Michael Brennan reports that on the evening of Saturday, March 4, several inmates in the Ashland County Jail were causing a disturbance by yelling, kicking on doors, and refusing to return to their cells.

Three cell blocks were involved in the disturbance. The inmates were reported to be no threat to each other but were refusing to go into cells and comply with commands of the Correctional Officers.

Additional Officers were requested to respond to safely enter the cell blocks to gain compliance of the inmates. Law enforcement officers from Ashland County Sheriff’s Office, Ashland Police Department, Mellen Police Department, Wisconsin State Patrol, and Bayfield County Sheriff’s Office responded.

Officers were able to gain compliance with their presences and the incident was quickly resolved without incident or the use of force.

Inmates involved in causing the issue are being referred on criminal charges.
