Northlanders Celebrate Spring at Bockfest

DULUTH, Minn.- Northlanders celebrated the coming of spring at the 23rd Annual Fitger’s Bockfest.

Bockfest is a traditional celebration started in Germany hundreds of years ago, but has also been celebrated in Duluth for more than 2 decades.  And Today, Attendees had a taste of authentic German food, and beer caramelized with a hot fire poker in celebration. People also celebrated with eating contests, beer drinking contests, jumping into an icy cold Lake Superior, and a Bock scavenger hunt.

“The Bock is the German word for goat, and we had them hidden all over Fitger’s as well as the court yard and they had a prize attached to it so people went around on a wonderful bock scavenger hunt and found them. They’ve all been captured including the king and queen, so, welcome spring!” said Tami Tanski Sherman.

All of the Bockfest activities took place in the Courtyard on the Lake side of Fitger’s.
