Duluth’s March Madness Connection
Former LCA Standouts Anders and Bjorn Broman in Tournament with Winthrop
DULUTH, Minn. – The NCAA Men’s Basketball tournament really gets going Thursday as the round of 64 starts. One of Thursday’s early games should get plenty of local attention.
Duluth natives Anders and Bjorn Broman not only starred for Lakeview Christian Academy, they’re two of Minnesota’s three highest scorers all–time.
These days, the Broman brothers play for Winthrop University. Parents John and Jill Broman say the boys are excited to be in the “Big Dance”.
“It’s unbelievable,” said John Broman. “I don’t think we ever dreamed we’d be going to the tournament, and to have both boys playing… it’s like pinch me, wake me up, is this really true?”
As luck would have it, Winthrop was sent to Milwaukee for the tournament’s first weekend, the closest of the eight sites to Duluth. With such a short trip the Broman brothers should have a substantial cheering section.
“Winthrop has a whole block of tickets, so we let all of our family and friends know,” said Jill Broman. “I’m amazed there is still support for our boys and the Winthrop team. I think we’ll be pleasantly surprised and it will be a fun day.”
Winthrop takes on Butler Thursday at 12:30 p.m. If the Eagles win, they could face the University of Minnesota in the 2nd round.
The Bromans aren’t the only local talent playing in March Madness. Superior’s Jessica Lindstrom is in the Women’s tournament with UW-Green Bay.
