Duluthians Say ‘No More’ to Mother Nature

Shorts Against Winter Happens Annually the Friday Before the First Day of Spring

DULUTH, Minn. – A hardy group of Duluthians were sending a strong message to Mother Nature Friday morning.

The 5th Annual Shorts Against Winter event is a chance for Northlanders to wear shorts to work before the official start of spring on Monday, March 20.

Shorts Against Winter started by Swim Creative Advertising Firm employee Kevin Cain, and has since taken off.

“It’s more about psychologically getting ready for spring because it’s snowing today and it’s cold out, but can’t do anything about it so put some shorts on and have fun,” said Cain, Office Manager at Swim Creative.

Those walking by had the chance to get a free cup of Arco Coffee, and even a prize for wearing their summer apparel.

“I came out to support the celebration of the end of winter! And time to get your shorts on,” said Arco CEO Donald Andresen.

Swim Creative plans to keep hosting the event each year. They hope more Duluthians choose to get involved next year, such as Duluth’s Mayor and other businesses.
