Lake Superior College Students Awarded Toolboxes

Industry Partners Sponsor the Grant to Ensure Students Graduate From In Demand Programs

DULUTH, Minn. – Three Lake Superior College students were awarded a toolbox today that they can use to complete their machine tool program and work professionally in the field.

The Machine Tech Toolbox Grant is provided by the LSC industry partners as a way to ensure skilled students graduate from in-demand programs.

The students have until the toolboxes on loan until they graduate, when the more than $1,500 worth of tools become theirs.

“Coming into this program without the tools, the student’s going to be responsible to come up with the $1,500 to purchase that tooling to be successful, so having their own tools, they get to use their own tools daily, the success rate is so much higher,” says Max Udovich, LSC machine tool technology instructor.

“It’s personal. I have my own tools. I know how to use them, I know how to work with them. I’ll even be able to work with them at home,” says Ryan Marshall, one of the students who received a toolbox.

LSC has been awarding the toolboxes for the last eight years to deserving students who apply for the honor.
