Myers-Wilkins Student Council Gives Back

Students are Collecting Food, Clothes and Books for Local Charities

DULUTH, Minn. – Myers-Wilkins Elementary School is home to a group of some impressive 4th and 5th graders.

The student council there is giving back through a food, clothing and book drive.  They’re collecting these items for Global Youth Services Day next month.

Britt Johnson, who works with the student council, calls what the kids are doing nothing short of inspiring.

“It’s been really great seeing how much stuff they’ve gathered and the participation from all the classrooms,” Johnson said.  “Even the families that might not have a lot have given some.”

The student council is taking donations through April 14th.  Everything they collect goes to CHUM and the Damiano Center.  Student Council President Sam Laderman says giving back feels great.

“I think that it feels really good for everybody in our student council, including me,” said Laderman.  “Helping contribute to people makes you feel like you’re helping everybody and it makes you feel really good inside.”
